Functional Classification is the process by which streets and highways are grouped according to which level of service they provide. Most travel involves movement through a network of roads; therefore it becomes necessary to channelize this network in a logical and efficient manner. Functional classification defines this channelization process by defining the part that the road plays in the overall flow of the trip through the highway network.
A map of the Function Classification change needed for Ligon Mill Road is attached to the agenda. It is recommended to update this local road to reclassify it as a “Major Collector”.
Requested Action: Action Approve the federal functional classification change.
