Title
Wake Transit Plan Vehicle Rental Tax Revenue Discussion
Ben Howell, CAMPO Staff
Body
The Recommended 2035 Wake Transit Plan includes a footnote about the Vehicle Rental Tax revenue that is included in the Plan. The footnote stems from the ongoing discussion around the Significant Concerns issued by Wake County and CAMPO. Due to the issuance of the Significant Concerns, a Wake Transit Conference Committee, made up of members appointed by the three Lead Agency Governing Boards, has been meeting to discuss the inclusion of Vehicle Rental Tax revenue in the Wake Transit Plan and in Wake Transit Work Plans. The footnote in the Recommended 2035 Wake Transit Plan reads as follows:
"The portion of the Regional Vehicle Rental Car Tax Revenue attributable to Wake Transit continues to be under discussion by the Wake Transit Conference Committee formed in the Spring of 2024 and is subject to annual allocation by the GoTriangle Board of Trustees. If there is a decision by the Conference Committee to remove or amend the revenue assumptions for the portion of the vehicle rental tax attributable to the Wake Transit Plan, an amendment to this Plan will be required."
Staff would like to discuss and receive direction from the Executive Board on the concerns around the inclusion of Vehicle Rental Tax revenue in the Wake Transit Plan and the Work Plans. A potential outcome of the discussion could be to rescind the Significant Concern issued by CAMPO. If the Executive Board decides to rescind the Significant Concern, CAMPO appointees would still participate on the Conference Committee, as Wake County also issued a Significant Concern. Alternatively, the Executive Board could reaffirm the CAMPO Significant Concerns, in which case the CAMPO appointees would continue participating on the Conference Committee.
Requested Action: Provide direction to staff on the CAMPO Significant Concerns regarding the portion of the Vehicle Rental Tax revenue included in the Wake Transit...
