Title
Southeast Area Study Update
Gaby Lawlor, MPO Staff
Body
The original Southeast Area Study, which evaluated land use and transportation issues in the southeastern section of the MPO’s planning area, was completed in 2018. It covered parts of Wake and Johnston Counties, and the municipalities of Archer Lodge, Benson, Clayton, Four Oaks, Garner, Kenly, Micro, Raleigh, Selma, Smithfield and Wilson’s Mills. The Study update includes the Town of Pine Level as well. The study is being conducted in coordination with NCDOT and the Upper Coastal Plain RPO. The SEAS Update will review existing conditions of the study area and progress that has been made based on the recommendations that came out of the original SEAS, and revisit goals and priorities to refresh policies and practices and produce recommendations for land use and transportation. The recommendations that come out of the SEAS Update will inform the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).
In April of 2022, CAMPO staff kicked off the Southeast Area Study (SEAS) Update. The existing conditions analysis for the Southeast Area has been completed. An in-person scenario planning workshop was held in late October 2022 to discuss tradeoffs and concepts for scenario planning work. The group also discussed potential performance measures for use in evaluating the scenarios. The consultant team has finished drafting the potential future land use scenarios and presented the results to the CTT on March 30 to solicit feedback.
The SEAS Update is scheduled to wrap up in June 2023, at which point the final study and the recommendations that come out of it will come back to the TCC for recommendation to the Executive Board.
