Title
Western Wake Traffic Signal System Integration Study
Alex Rickard, CAMPO Staff
Body
One of the goals of the Triangle Region ITS Strategic Deployment Plan Update is regionalized ITS systems, including coordinated signal systems. The Capital Area MPO has completed a technical study to analyze the potential of bringing the Town of Morrisville signals into the Town of Cary signal system, as well as the broader implementation of a regional signal/ITS system in the western half of Wake County in close coordination with Morrisville, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, and NCDOT. Specific implementation steps necessary for the successful integration of all traffic signals within Morrisville into Cary’s signal system have been defined. In addition, the study looks at detailing specific implementation steps and any additional work that will be needed for the integration of all traffic signals within Apex, Holly Springs, and Fuquay-Varina into a regional signal system in coordination with NCDOT. The study also includes a review of funding opportunities, peer reviews from other areas, an infrastructure evaluation of signal systems within the stakeholder jurisdictions, and any necessary agreement language or templates that may be needed for signal system integration. The study has been posted to the CAMPO website and a public review and comment period is open through August 16th. CAMPO staff will present public comments received and answer questions.
