Body
The North Harnett Transit Study was an effort requested by the Harnett County Board of County Commissioners and was supported by MPO member municipalities within Harnett County. CAMPO contracted with WSP, Inc to complete a two-phase study to explore public transportation options in northern Harnett County. Phase I of the study focused on educating the public about public transportation options and how those options may be supported by various land uses. Phase I also included analysis of travel patterns and volumes in the county to determine whether a public transit option was viable. The result of Phase I indicated that there was general interest in having additional transportation options in the area, and that several different forms of public transportation may be viable. Phase II of the study explored those options and developed a recommendation of Microtransit with connections to main destinations outside the study area as an option.
The North Harnett Transit Study report has been available for public review and comment from July 21 - August 19, 2025. The Harnett County Board of Commissioners endorsed the study recommendations in May 2025.
Requested Action: Action Recommend the Executive Board endorse the North Harnett Transit Study Recommendations for use in the Metropolitan Transportation Plan.
