Title

Request to Designate Critical Urban Freight Corridors

Paul Black, MPO Staff

Body

In the FAST Act, Section 1116 National Highway Freight Program (NHFP) requires the designation and certification of Critical Urban Freight Corridors (CUFC).  CAMPO and DCHC MPO developed a Triangle Regional Freight Plan that will come before this Board in the near future.  NCDOT is asking for us to go ahead and designate and certify our corridors early in order to meet a June 30 federal deadline for CUFC designation.  The materials before you today represent the small parts of the draft freight network that NCDOT is designating as critical for the federal definition.

Requested Action: Action Approve the corridors for designation and certification as CAMPO’s Critical Urban Freight Corridors as recommended by NCDOT, and recommend that FHWA update the national Primary Highway Freight System to include all Interstates in the CAMPO planning area.
