U.S. 1 North Tolling Options Study
Daniel Spruill, MPO Staff
Body
To preserve the schedule and cost of the U.S. 1 North upgrades to a freeway, the CAMPO Executive Board requested North Carolina Turnpike Authority in February 2024 to study tolling this facility. This study was conducted over the next year and results of the four scenarios analyzed were presented to the March 2025 CAMPO Executive Board.
At CAMPO’s March Executive Board meeting, the Board directed CAMPO to conduct public engagement on the options for tolling US 1 North from I-540 to Purnell/Harris Rd just south of the Wake/Franklin County line as presented by the North Carolina Turnpike Authority. This project would be the extent of NCDOT project U-5307 segments A, B, C, and D. CAMPO has developed a strategy and launched the public comment period on April 7th and continued through May 14th. The website can be found at https://www.publicinput.com/US_1_TollingOptions. CAMPO conducted two drop-in information sessions for the public on:
April 30th 5-7PM
Abbotts Creek Community Center
9950 Durant Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614
May 5th 5-7PM
Wake Forest Renaissance Center
405 Brooks St, Wake Forest, NC 27587
CAMPO will work with the impacted communities to help increase awareness and knowledge on the topic.
